Most trauma patients will die of bleeding from the extremities, so delaying any treatment of serious hemorrhaging will negatively affect their chances for survival.

Taking the time to "suit up" seems a dangerous piece of advice. The priority is to stop the bleeding, restore breathing, and prevent lung collapse.

I also saw no mention of a tourniquet as a means of temporarily stopping the bleeding, especially one that can be self-applied.

The military has done a lot of research, spent a lot of resources, and spilled a lot of blood to develop effective field trauma care, and it is a shame to see it go to waste.

Find a Combat Lifesaver Course: Student Self Study guide online, and get a CLS kit and learn how to use it. North American Rescue provides the military with theirs, and it is of fairly high quality.Scott Dotsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00593397699418990134noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5539536712848399272.post-76659822391906880472010-03-08T07:03:50.029-08:002010-03-08T07:03:50.029-08:00posted on APN main site.
